A cohort of 1,479 barley lines (fixed genotypes/cultivars, breeding lines and research populations) was screened at Toluca, Mexico against barley stripe rust.
Key Information
Crop
Barley
Disease resistance(s)
Barley stripe rust
Additional Information
Of 1479 lines, 106 (7%) lines were wintery or segregating or did not germinate, so no data was collected on these lines. The remaining lines showed a range of resistance and susceptible disease response; 1167 (79%) lines with high to moderate levels of resistance (0-50% disease severity), 129 (9%) lines moderately susceptible (51-70% disease severity), and 77 (5%) susceptible to highly susceptible (71-100% disease severity). Ninety-five genotypes carrying high levels of stripe rust resistance (based on Toluca data) and leaf rust resistance (based on Cobbitty data) were identified that can be used in case of an incursion or as donor sources in pre-emptive breeding.
